Word of the Day- CLAY
The Bible describes God as the Potter and we are the clay. This description gives definitive responsibility and role to our relationship with God. Thanks to "Pottery Crafters", I have learned that there are eight stages of clay. If that be true, what stage are you? Stage 1 - Dry clay: this is its rawest form; it is easily stored and manipulated. Stage 2 - The Slip: this is created by adding water. Slip is the glue that holds decorative pieces of pottery together. STAGE 3 - Plastic or Workable: this is the fun stage. At this stage, clay is malleable (flexible), and the potter is able to create something. STAGE 4 - Leather Hard: This stage is when the clay is hardened a little more so you can trim, add handles, and make other alterations before the clay gets too hard. The clay is called leather hard because it has the feel of soft leather. Stage 5 - Bone Dry: stage is when the moisture is out of the clay and it’s dry enough to bisque fire. This stage is very important, the clay could explode in the kiln if not dry enough. Stage 6 - Bisque: this is when the clay is fired in the kiln at nearly 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. All chemically bonded water and impurities are remove from the clay, causing the clay to be change permanently. Stage 7 - Glaze Firing: here is where the magic happens. The glazes you have applied melts to the clay and vitrifies, creating beautiful colors and patterns. Stage 8 - Enjoyment: the final stage! The clay is ready to be used for its intended purpose. As you contemplate the stage of clay you are in, seek to know and be authentic to that stage. Submit to the hands of The Potter and prepare for the next stage. The word of the day is "CLAY".
